Following a hugely successful UK tour, this summer Jess and her fantastic live band took to Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where they debuted a brand new show, The Jess Robinson Experience. A Fringe regular since 2015, Jess and her seamless band, The Jessington World of Adventures, took audiences on a one hour journey of comedic impressions, dazzling vocals and musical mashups, turning a regular cabaret show into a spectacular mix of witty celebrity impressions and touching personal anecdotes.
Having performed at the Fringe for the last five years, this year’s show focused on just what it means to be a ‘Jess Robinson’ and featured more original music and stories about her life. Featuring more stand up and silliness, Jess described the show as ‘feel good, exuberant fun and uplifting’, and added that her family and childhood would play a big part of the performance, in particular stories of her Grandma. Of course, spot on impressions of stars from Lily Allen to Shakira and Cardi B made a welcome appearance and were mingled with razor sharp wit and musical numbers featuring her own dazzling vocals!
Backed by Michael Roulston on keys, Rob Lamont on bass and Jonathan Kitching on drums, the original music really took centre stage this year and it’s really no wonder; Jess and her flawless musical family took the show to new heights and undoubtedly audiences will be hoping for more should they return next year.
So, what’s next for Jess and The Jessington World of Adventures? A busy year is certainly ahead as Jess brings The Jess Robinson Experience back in time for Christmas at ‘Christmas in Leicester Square’ on the 17th November. Other than that, you can expect to catch Jess on Pointless alongside Mark Benton, on Radio 4’s ‘Agendum’ and CBBC’s ‘The Dog Ate My Homework’, airing soon.
